Schermerhorn Symphony Center: Concert Report

Schermerhorn Symphony Center was hosting a free concert day on October 10th. Outside the symphony center was a beautiful fountain and trees outlined the gate. The wind was blowing gently. When we first arrived, we sat in on the Belmont University Percussion Ensemble. The ensemble played outside in front of the center. People sat in chairs and all up and down the stairs. They played several pieces. The first piece was “Trio Para Uno”. There was a set of drums and nine people played on the set of drums at the same time. The musicians switched places, and it created a beautiful and adventurous piece. It was breathe taking and really incredible how they pulled it off. The second piece was “Mountain Air”. The building was beautiful. There was so many stairs. The design was magnificent. A beautiful structure. There was characters and different forms of other art carved into the walls. They also had a small concert outside in the gardening area. It was pleasing and relaxing to sit outside and watch the musicians perform while eating pastries and drinking coffee from the café. We got to explore the symphony hall. We had the chance to see each booth that people can buy or rent. There was so many. The best spot to sit was in the middle. We could see all, hear all, and feel all. We sat through a thirty minute symphony. The hall began to fill with people. The lights dimmed, and they began to play. They played three pieces. As they played, no one made a sound. I loved seeing the violinist play. They were on point. Throughout all the pieces the tempos started out slowly then they got faster. I love watching the musician’s arms go up and down at the same time. It was amazing how they turned the pages at the same time. You could definitely tell that the orchestra practiced and practiced. The musicians put a lot of time into their performances. I loved the feeling when the orchestra played really intense pieces. No on made a sound. The symphony hall was silenced.
