As learned previously, schizophrenia is thought to be a devastating mental illness and it is only one for the larger classes of psychotic disorders (Schug & Fradella, 2015). This disorder may or may not be caused by the external environment and the affected individuals typically cannot differentiate their imaginations from real life scenarios. There are various symptoms associated with schizophrenia that vary from person to person as well as warning signs to look for. Additionally, there are risk factors and different treatment plans that can be used to treat schizophrenia and to reduce symptoms. According to Sinclair (2011), although it is a myth that all schizophrenics are violent, such individuals are more at risk of dangerous behavior such as suicide or violence. Also, it has been suggested that violent behavior is comparatively rare and that most people with this disorder are never violent and do not display any dangerous behavior (Sinclair, 2011). However, a small number do become violent when they are suffering from acute symptoms of psychosis due to the influence of the hallucinations and delusions of their thinking. Additionally, studies have found that in cases of dangerousness, the delusions that are more influential in causing dangerous behavior than the hallucinations (Sinclair, 2011). In the United Kingdom, it has been mentioned that 30 murders on average are committed by people living with schizophrenia.
