The American Psychological Association defines, “Schizophrenia is a serious mental illness characterized by incoherent or illogical thoughts, bizarre behavior and speech, and delusions or hallucinations, such as hearing voices. Schizophrenia typically begins in early adulthood” (American Psychological Association [APA], 2014). First, he believed that an alien was delivering information and communicating to him. Second, there were times that he believed the government was out to get him and ruined his life. Third, there were some days he would call his family and ask if he could speak with John Nash himself. Finally, he traveled to Europe seeking asylum because he thought the U.S. government was out to get him. The disease really continued to ruin his life, friends and family. All the people that knew him well were so frustrated and sadden that this bright man was falling apart. His friends and families treated him with respect and dignity even during his episodes.
