As I grew up surrounded by pearls and bright red lipstick or fancy beach cover ups and big sunglasses, I was naturally drawn to the essence of fashion and I was mesmerized by how clothing pieces can represent an individual. Each summer was spent with my grandmother and her classic style that held nothing but elegance as she would walk into each room she entered. Whether we were heading to the beach or out to the golf course to have lunch, she was always dressed to make an entrance and I would admire the way she carried her soul through fashion. My grandmother was a seamstress and stylist. She made her own clothing pieces and pieces for many other women that wished to be styled by someone as poised and proper as she was. I would continuously wait for the famous fashion weeks in New York, Paris and London. As I watched the way the models moved in their pieces, I became infatuated in the way shows and models were put together to present a jaw dropping line of fashion that captivated individuals like myself. I wanted to understand how the glorified runway came together. The behind the scenes of fashion became so intriguing to me. I studied the outside world of fashion and followed the advice my grandmother taught me, along with the words from influential fashion designers such as Coco Chanel and Christian Dior. The Fashion Institute offers you another world through the business of fashion that many people fail to recognize. I believe that I was born to show how much ambition I have to illustrate myself through the business and art of style that are so unlike other studies of this world. Notable alumni such as Calvin Klein, Carolina Herrara and Nina Garcia are names that have inspired me to start my fashion education in hopes to one day be someone as influential as they have been to the fashion world. I want to show this world what I can bring to the art of fashion, but also I hope to honor my grandmother’s talent because without her I would have never taken interest in this art.
