Over recent years the amount of school shootings has increased tremendously from numerous causes, which leave lasting effects that change our daily life and routine. School shootings are devastating events that seem to happen more and more often as life progresses. It is not possible to know the one true reason why people decide to commit this awful act, but it is possible to look and see some of the daily causes that lead a person to go this far. These causes are as simple as bullying, prejudice, mentally ill, or a bad home life. Not only are the causes bad but so are the effects that they leave behind. Daily life for the shooter can be as normal as anyone else or as terrible as it could be. Some of the major causes going on in the shooter’s life could include constant bullying, prejudice against them, a bad home life, or they are just sick in the brain. These are just a few, but major causes that can push a person so far that they think they should take the lives of either the people bullying them or innocent people in their school. First off, there is tons of prejudice still in the United States, especially in schools around the country. Kids get made fun of daily on the premise of either race, gender, sexual preference, or religion. Prejudism leads into the bullying aspect of the causes. “One out of every four students report being bullied during the school year” (bullying statistics). Bullying is such a large part of the reasons kids decide to become school shooters. The consistency of the bullying pushes them too far, to the point of committing this horrific act. For example, look at the Columbine massacre. “The conclusion is that the pair of supposed "Trench Coat Mafia outcasts" were taking revenge against the bullies who had made school miserable for them” (Cullen).
