Caring for only himself and his wealth, Scrooge perceives Christmas as a waste of time and money. He believes for his own good and others, he would rather be left alone. Through this short novel, Scrooge is visited by three ghosts bringing out his regrets to show what Scrooge really cares about. Dickens illustrates the time with the ghosts to show the effects of greed and being discourteous.
In the movie and play A Christmas Carol Ebeneezer Scrooge discovers how his actions now could affect the afterlife. Both of these formats have many similarities, like how all the ghosts of Christmas are described and seen in the same way. Both have the Ghost of Christmas Past very bright, a woman, and held holly. The Ghost of Christmas Present is wearing a large green robe, very tall and mighty figure, and wears a beard. The Ghost of Christmas Future is black, frightening, and has bony fingers.
The book A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, is about a man named Ebenezer Scrooge. Scrooge gets visited by three ghosts who help him change for the better. One of the ghosts was The Ghost of Christmas Present. The ghost of Christmas Present is a cheerful, positive, and frank giant whose attitude effected a change in scrooge. The Ghost of Christmas Present is a very cheerful person.
When the Ghost of Christmas Past visits him, he is worried and very confused. Ebenezer Scrooge thinks that the entire thing is a joke. “There’s more gravy than of grave about you, whatever you are.” His actions illustrate how simple his life was, by catching him completely off guard, and showing that all of his joy is gone. He becomes terribly frightened by reliving his past.
Dickens uses Fred as an implication of Scrooges is tenancy to exclude any possible happiness from his life and how such decisions will lead him to tedious misery. Fred approaches his uncle with a “merry Christmas!” A delightful atmosphere suddenly created through Fred's upbeat character. We are shown Scrooge does not lack the presence of a family with great love for him, but lacks the ability to uptake the offers his family make, requesting his presence seen to be humid and dismal to others but seen as the presence of their uncle to themselves. The excessive use of exclamation marks shows us Scrooge although rude and dismissive towards others is accepted in the presence of his nephew Fred.
There was a boy singing a Christmas carol at my door last night, and I should like to have given him something, that’s all. ’”(Stave 2, pg.38). When Scrooge was with the Ghost of Christmas Past, he sees himself as a child, lonely and is ashamed when he thought about the time of when he was shouting at the little boy that was caroling at his door the other night. ” ’This boy is Ignorance. This girl is Want…’ ‘Have they no refuge or resource?’ cried Scrooge?’
“A woman with shorn white hair is standing at the kitchen window. She is wearing tennis shoes and a shapeless gray sweater over a summery calico dress. She is small and sprightly, like a bantam hen; but, due to a long youthful illness, her shoulders are pitifully hunched…….. “Oh my,” she exclaims, her breath smoking the windowpane, “it’s fruitcake weather!” ( Capote 177). This all describes a women called buddy's friend, she is young in heart but brittle in age, she is a very spritely little old women whose kind, and innocent.
The Ghost of Christmas Present brang Scrooge to the Cratchit’s house. Scrooge saw the whole Cratchit's family celebrating Christmas. Scrooge heard them talk about Tiny Tim and saw him with crutches he knew that Tiny Tim wouldn't live long Scrooge feared that Tiny Tim wouldn't live so he thought to himself that he had to do something. In ‘A Christmas Carol’, Dickens presents Ignorance and Want in a metaphorical fashion, depicting them as children. This is done in such a manner as to shock and appall the reader, leading to greater emotional investment. Throughout the extract’s entirety, Ignorance and Want are depicted as children, increasing the atmosphere of pessimism that surrounds them. Dickens describes the manner in which the Ghost of Christmas Present “brought two children” – by describing Ignorance and Want as “children”, Dickens creates the impression of innocence, vulnerability, and weakness.
The ghost of Christmas present took Scrooge to a place in London where people who were less fortunate lived At a lighthouse, two men “joined hands over the rough table at which they sat, and they wished each other a Merry Christmas” (Dickens 6.1). Those people had to work on Christmas, but they made the best of it and had their own Christmas. The ghost of Christmas Present also took Scrooge to his nephew’s house. At his nephew’s house, they were playing a game and Scrooge’s nephew was thinking of something while the other had to figure out what it was. He was thinking of “a savage animal, an animal that growled and grunted sometimes, and lived in London.”
The Grinch Who Stole Christmas The Grinch who stole Christmas is one of my favorite Dr. Seuss books and one of my favorite Christmas movies. I found 3 things similar to one another in the book and the movie which had the Grinch who hated Christmas, the Who’s who loved Christmas, and the Grinch stole all of the presents and food. One identical thing I found in the movie and book was that the Grinch hated Christmas. If they didn’t put the Grinch’s hate for Christmas in both the book and, he would have no reason to steal Christmas and it wouldn’t have been a very good movie.
