I read the book Packing For Mars by Mary Roach. Packing For Mars is a nonfiction book that sheds light on the uneasy and sometimes awkward aspects of space traveling that allow humans to discover the unknown through rather complex topics of the sciences. Overall, I enjoyed the book because it gave me insight on how we’re able to survive in space due to many inventions and algorithms such as the general relativity equation, yet also being quite entertaining by pointing out on bizarre and comical things astronauts do in space like going to the bathroom or even not showering for such a long periods of time. Mary Roach uses a very interesting yet appealing writing style this book. To begin, Roach seamlessly incorporates important facts and information with humor, which entail keeps the reader thoroughly
This quote highlights how these settlers are bringing their destructive habits onto Mars. A specific excerpt from the quote highlights these beliefs, “ran men with hammers in their hands to beat the strange world into shape that was familiar to the eye.” An especially powerful word in this quote is “strange world” which depicts how to the settlers this is a strange place that needs to be fixed, so it can
The author highlighted the early similarities in the lives himself and the other Wes Moore to make it clear that, when their paths diverged, it was largely due to choices. Additionally, to ensure readers learned from the mistakes they made, Moore emphasized the consequences each man faced. Finally, the epilogue laid out the benefits of overcoming obstacles versus succumbing to the environment you grew up. In conclusion, the decisions the author made in terms of the plot helped him successfully communicate his purpose that working hard to overcome obstacles is
Mark is a sullen character. In the story Mark is portrayed as a sleepy eyed, laid back, and expressionless guy. “Cool it,” Mark Kinney said quietly. He slouched in his seat in his usual don’t-care position, his odd, heavy-lidded eyes giving him a deceptively sleepy appearance” (13). The quote shows that Mark is a calm, sleepy-appearance person.
In the novel “The Martian” by Andy Weir, there is a lot of detail used throughout the story. Mark describes the items he uses on Mars and only tells the reader what they need to know about the item. “In the Hab, we had the Oxygenator, a large piece of equipment that could break CO2 apart and give the oxygen back. But the spacesuits had to be portable, so they used a simple chemical absorption process with expendable filters.” (Weir 6).
So I evaluate that the current situation he is in is in is way safer then where he started because of the he work he has put in. Also I evaluate that NASA is making a rescue plan because in the book they keep going back to NASA and wondering why a billion dollar company couldn’t save one man? It almost seems as though Mark Whatney is the only man on earth and they don’t like him so they don’t talk ☺. Overall I assess that Mark Whatney is progressively making progress to his ultimate goal, which is get off
Once Watney’s comrades learns that he is alive, they risk their lives to rescue their friend. The astronauts of the Hermes vote whether to extend their mission by 533 sols and travel back to Mars to retrieve Watney or to stay on track and leave their comrade; of course, they choose to save him because they are a team (The Martian). Watney’s fellow crewmembers show their loyalty by endangering their lives to save his because they have shared jokes, tears, and forgiveness; they have a closer bond. This relationship propels Mark Watney’s adventure from a book to a popular American
Mark spent 549 sols on Mars, or 564 Earth days, awaiting his inevitable demise. Mark is part of a mission along with 5 others to research Mars and its habitability. The mission was designed to last 31 sols. During their sixth sol on Mars, a dust storm with wind gusts to extreme for their escape pod (MAV) to handle came and the crew had to evacuate 25 sols early. During the difficult walk to the MAV, the team’s botanist and engineer was struck by a piece of flying metal, Mark was presumed to be dead.
In this quote, it is talking about equipment failure when an important piece of equipment fails to work it can cast a person’s life. Mark, he is common for this to happen to him and accepts this, he views it like a typical day which inevitable will happen. Mark over the time being on Mars learns more about himself and realizes to keep his faith and believe in

In the end, there are no Martians, very few lonely Earthlings, and dead cities. Mars, intended to be a world filled with travelers from Earth results in a desolate, empty, and lifeless planet due to the invasion of Earthlings. Another result from the invasion of Mars by Earthlings is the sad reality of making an entire planet filled with sorrow, despair, loneliness, uncertainty, and confusion. There are several instances where Earthlings are hypnotized by Martians, and eventually killed by them, too. These parts of the story usually lead to sadness and depression in character(s).
Tradition is important, but does it justify death? In the short story “The Lottery”, this topic is explored. When a small village gathers for their annual lottery, readers assume that this is like any other lottery. As the story unravels readers come to realize that this lottery is a sacrificial ceremony where a member of the village is chosen to be pelted by stones to death to ensure a good harvest. Tradition can be dangerous, this is explored through the setting, foreshadowing and the theme in this short story.
Inequality has been in existence even before the Civil Rights Act was passed in 1964. Slavery has been a result of inequality and even Obama has won office due to inequality. Obama is the first African American president and the majority of African Americans voted for him, which led to his presidential win. Although, Obama has done many wrongdoings like providing Iraq with military grade weapons, but he is still treated fairly by the House of Representatives. If the house had not believed in equality, then Obama would be able to cause The United States to plunder.
In this essay I will discuss three of the many problems Mark Watney faces in the Martian. The first major problem Watney faces is getting stranded and wounded on Mars. The second problem Watney faces is how he is going to survive on mars till help can come. The final problem he faces is how is he going to get to the Ares, so he can leave Mars. The first problem Mark Watney face on Mars is getting injured and becoming stranded on Mars.
Mark (who is a astronaut and a botanist) has to try to survive, he doesn 't know how long he 'll be on Mars or if he 'll ever get back to Earth.
