My proudest accomplishment to date has been the day that I graduated with my bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland Baltimore County. Being the only one in my family to attend college at the time, I knew that I wanted one thing, and that was to graduate with my degree and thrive. Letting my family or myself down was not an option.
I was introduced to the field of psychology early on in my life when my late grandfather’s book on psychological perspectives was given to me. As I skimmed over the pages I was drawn into the world of understanding why behaviors occurred. I became fascinated by the depth of the field and its ever-expanding nature. One of my strongest strengths is that I firmly believe in and have been trained in the scientist-practitioner model, which urges psychologists to continually consume and conduct scientifically sound research to enhance the field of psychology. Without the ability to consume or conduct sound research, the quality of care and magnitude of assistance that can be provided is limited. After speaking with Dr. Kristin Rispoli and Dr. Summer Ferreri, I believe that this program would be an exceptional fit for me and my career aspirations due to its unique bio-ecological systems perspective which is woven throughout the coursework, as well as the potential to work at internship sites such as The Sunfield Center for Autism, ADHD, and Behavioral Health, Thriving Minds Behavioral Health Center, and Saginaw Public Schools. After reviewing the current faculty research interests, I have found that my research interests coincide with those of Dr. Kristin Rispoli and Dr. Summer Ferreri. I would be delighted to work with either of these
