Scout is always with her brother, Jem, who go on adventures with a new friend they meet named Dill. The three of them are always getting into trouble. Scout’s father, Atticus, is a widower. Scout’s mother died when Scout was very young. Throughout the novel Scout shows 3 important characteristics, Intelligence, Investigator, and tomboy. When Jem and Dill started to get close scout felt excluded, so she starts to spend more time with Miss Maudie, their neighbor. Scout then wonders if Boo Radley is alive or dead so she asked Miss Maudie. “Miss Maudie,’ I said one evening, ‘do you think Boo Radley’s still alive?” Scout wanted to gain more knowledge about her community and the world. Because of this she asks many questions and investigates the world around her. One person she has always wanted to know more about is Boo, Arthur, Radley. She does not only ask about him this one time but several times throughout the novel. The trial for Tom’s case was coming up so more comments and whispers start whenever the kids walk around town. One of the comments Scout heard included the word rape, so she wondered about it. Because of this Scout asked Atticus what it meant. “What’s rape?’ I asked him that night.”As she grows older she want to learn and gain more knowledge. She does this by asking questions no matter the situation she will ask anyone she can to give her an answer to her question.
