Similarities in the Shadows of Differences. The Hunger Games and Scythe, two different books the same genre. And yet the similarities and differences are extremely surprising. I will be comparing the differences, and similarities between Scythe and the Hunger Games but some background is necessary to understand both books. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins is a dystopian novel placed in the future where northern America is still standing, and after countless wars, the country of Panem is what stands, it is divided into 12 districts with the capital, and districts 1, 2, 3, etc, and the lower the number the poorer the district is. One of those ways is the main character knowing how wrong and evil their society is, but they can't fight back because of the central governments power. One example is from Scythe, which states “Nothing about our existence to decipher. Which meant that no one person was of greater importance than any other. In the passage, it implicitly states this in the fact that during the hunger games, she is easily outnumbered but she continues to fight on. ”I volunteer! I volunteer as tribute!” (Hunger Games,22) Katniss volunteers as tribute to protect her sister. It shows how she unintentionally stood up to the capitol because they had taken so much from her and she wasn't going to let them take prim. Now Scythe and The Hunger Games have similar concepts they still have their own differences.
