“The Book”, by Ben Loory is about life and reveals if people let go of their troubles, they can find happiness. The woman fills her empty life with anger for the book. After she lets go of her frustration, she learns to be happy and soon creates a life of her own. After she buys the books she gets mad at strangers she doesn’t even know. On page 4, the text states, “...The woman sees a man reading the book… She screams across the crowded car… There are no words inside, you can’t read it!... That’s so stupid! The woman yells… a policeman is called and has to break up a fight.” She’s so engrossed on how much she loathes the book that she doesn’t realize how rude and impolite she’s being. She decides to change, for the better. “The woman turns over a whole new leaf… She falls in love and gets married. She has children… And then one day, late in life, her husband dies… One evening… going through her husband’s things… the woman finds a copy of the book… as she does, something falls out. It’s a picture taken of her and her husband on the very first day they met… And then the book seems to open itself, and there’s her life on the page. After letting go of her pain and anger, she discovers the beauty and happiness of the book. As she let this all go, her husband filled the book with her full happy life. In the story, the woman was angry. She hated the book, but once she realized all the negative feedback she was receiving, she felt sad and miserable. She then changed for good and let go of her bad emotions to set up a good life for herself. It wasn’t until years later she realized the true beauty of the book.
