Mystery novel analysis paper Seasick by Kristan Cast and Pintip Dunn is a mystery novel that follows the themes of survival and friendship. The story is set on a cruise ship with a bunch of classmates who just won a trip to Bermuda to get into a very high class society. The book quickly takes a turn, and suspense carries throughout the rest of the novel when none of the characters know who to trust. The book Seasick falls into the category of thriller and locked room mystery. The reason it falls into these categories is because the characters are all devoting themselves to who committed the crime and then trying to figure out who did it while being isolated on a cruise ship. Which also built a lot of suspense as they all realized they needed to be careful of who they trusted with their personal information. The setting of Seasick is on a luxury cruise ship where a bunch of classmates won a trip to Bermuda but quickly turned into a nightmare when one of them was found dead. The way the setting impacted the plot was because they were now trapped on a ship with a murderer who may be one of their classmates. For example, when Yana is thinking to herself and says, “The ship’s corridors seemed to stretch endlessly, each turn revealing more shadows and whispers.” (Cast 167) This was a perfect example of how being isolated affected the plot because since Everly died by getting shoved into a spike, the ship seems so much more ominous to just walk around on. The author uses different characters for the different chapters to show the different points of view to the readers, depending on what’s going on in the story to impact the
