One difference between the Red Scare and McCarthyism is that the Red Scare was a more general movement that targeted immigrants and labor unions. The anti-radical fears from the Red Scare fueled xenophobia which resulted in restrictions on immigration in the 1920s. From November 1919 to January 1920, over 6,000 people were arrested on limited evidence. Most of the arrested suspects were foreigners who were deported.
The actions of 9/11 and the Red Scare are in fact different. With the Red Scare it was Communism and with 9/11 it was Muslims, basically all Middle Easterners. Even though the date and time of the events are different, in both events men were able to step up and take advantage of fear and hatred to turn it into suspicion and paranoia. During the time of the Red Scare attack, the U.S became afraid that communist especially from Russia and China would spread throughout the modern world. The United States is a Democratic Nation and feared that the spread of communist would be good for the United States or the world.
Not only did these events have a huge impact that would create the event itself, but both the McCarthy Red Scare and Salem Witch Trials led to negative societal consequences. For example, during the red scare, hundreds of people lost their jobs and were incarcerated on the basis of being communist. According to “McCarthyism”(2022) “more than 2,000 government employees lost their jobs and had their reputations destroyed in the process.” During the Salem witch trials, several people were also incarcerated, mostly women, on the basis of being involved in witchcraft. According to “Salem Witch Trials”(2022) “more than 200 people had been accused and 19 had been executed on Gallows Hill.”

In the 1940 's and 1950 's, an anti-Communist movement swept the United States of America. Fueled by the anti-Communist actions of Congress, particularly a Senator from Wisconsin by the name of Joseph McCarthy, the movement escalated and many people lost their jobs as a result of various blacklists. Congressional hearings, both in front of HUAC and McCarthy Senate committee were a study in organized persecution. The actions taken during the "Red Scare" were eventually given the general name McCarthyism. McCarthyism is the practice of making accusations of subversion or treason without proper regard for evidence.
In a news article published during the Red Scare, the author describes the Communist red flag as symbolizing “defiance of law, order, and constitutional government. It is an insult to the stars and stripes.” It also states, “There is no room in this country for any flag but our own.” (source) The article goes on to say that the federal government must do whatever it takes to eradicate any forms of communism.
How the Results of World War 1 led to the First Red Scare. The 1930s was a time of panic and tension for Americans. After World War One, the American public wanted to be left alone. They were tired of Americans fighting overseas and meddling in other countries’ businesses during the war. This accelerated their hostility towards communists, immigrants, and non-Americans.
It’s the 1920’s and fear sweeps through the United States. When communists overthrew the Russian government in the 1917 Bolshevik Russian Revolution, the United States government resolved to prevent a similar uprising in America. American citizens also had a growing fear that the new communist ideals in Russia would spread to the United States, damaging the nation’s democracy. This fear of communism was known as “The Red Scare” or “The First Red Scare.”
During the time of the red scare of 1919 and 1920. The red scare was a major threat to United States was plotted by anarchist to overthrow the government and eventually take of the United States. The red scare was not the only threat to society. On September 11, 2001 better known as 9/11 was a series of terrorist attacks on held by suicidal Islamic an attempt to overthrow the government and to get the attention of American citizens. These were great tragedies that had happened over a period of time to American citizens.
The Red Scare started right after the civil war was over. There had been many riots to accrue during the time of the red scare. In the term the red scare had been a form of lose to many successful people. It took at huge toll on the government as they tried to stop and contain the many job losses, but as the time went by people start to riot in the streets because the of the cuts from their jobs had really affected them. People were losing their lives and the government did all they could to try and stop it.
The causes of the Red Scare was a major deal going on back in the day. Around that time World War 1 Americans was vulnerable and scared. They had many workers joining major unions. Polices was going on strike in September in 1919 even though they wanted to contribute fears. They led many immigrants from Russia to attend the United States Government.
The American people feared the spread of communism and nuclear war in the aftermath of the Second World War, while President Eisenhower addressed these fears by having strong domestic and foreign policies. The fear of communism carved a deep sense of mistrust in American people. They believed anything that was said and blindly followed people who were in political power without any basis of evidence. The fear of communism created a sense of “hysteria” (Document A) within the general public and even in people in government.
