Charlie, who is the main character of the book "The perks of being a wallflower" by Stephen Chbosky has a lot of secrets. They had a big impact on him and the people around him throughout the entire book. Charlie has always been a shy person and he never had a lot of friends to share his secrets with. One reason why he clicked with Sam and Patrick, who became his best friends, was because they also had a lot of secrets. For example Patrick was homosexual and nearly anybody knew. Even the most open people have secrets. Secrecy played a big role in the friendship between Charlie and some characters. When he found out that Patrick was homosexual he knew a secret that barely anyone knew. He kept this secret. This increased their friendship since there was now bigger trust between them. They were more open to each other and understood each other better. An example of this is when Patrick kisses him. Charlie is not homosexual but he knows that Patrick needed it. In the book there is something that bothers Charlie on the inside. Eventually you could understand that he got molested by his aunt, Helen, when he was a kid. It seems like his family knew about this. They just did not tell him. Instead they kept it a secret this whole time. If they told him about this maybe he would not feel as bad. In the ending he realises what had happened and goes into a chock state. Surely his parents could have stopped this from happening if they just told him the truth.
