In books by Nathaniel Hawthorne it is known for there to be some type of “secret sin.” If you have ever read any of Hawthorne’s stories then it is likely that you noticed this sin in some type of way. Whereas this mostly exists due to the antagonist this is not always the case. From time and time again you may find a story where both the antagonist and the protagonist share this secret sin. One of his more known stories “The Scarlet Letter” is very renown for having such a large presence of sin. In a matter of opinion it is thought to be the most clear and obvious to see out of any of the stories written by Hawthorne. Based on opinion it is thought to be the most clear and obvious to see out of any of the stories written by Hawthorne. In the “The Scarlet Letter” Hawthorne focused mainly on the specific topics of adultery and guilt in “The Minister’s Black Veil” he focused less on clear secret sins and more on the fact that everybody has them. Hawthorne wrote about nearly anything that dealt with the darker part of society. He would go into clear detail about the facts of life that most other authors often times wouldn’t touch. It is believed that he himself was consumed by the same sin that he was able to write so well about it.
