Also, in class we held presentation of different topics and interventions. As I?ve noticed, in previous classes, that videos always catch my attention. I am more a visual learner, therefore watching videos helps me to see the before and after of a situation. Watching the videos in class gives me the inside look and depth that a reading cannot. Before speaking on the topic of social media, I wanted to reflect on the ?attention? aspect. As a child coming from a single parent home, this behavior was not new to me. My father was not there and my mother was a single parent working full time. I rarely received affection and complements. My mother was and still is not affectionate. Majority of my friends came from affectionate families, while I, on the other hand, had not. I, as a young teenager, seek for attention and acceptance. I too at age 13 had secret relations with a young man age 19. Luckily, I didn?t go through the same challenge as Nicole. I feel as though I related to Nicole in the sense of wanting to be wanted and accepted. Although, I was not a victim of bullying, I believed we had similarities in wanting the male attention. However, Nicole was only stated to talk to one guy at that age but I conversed with many. I understand at this age that men that age only have one desire with a girl that age, SEX. I didn?t have the courage to lay down with them but most na?ve girls would have. I just wanted to feel important to someone of a different sex due to having many girlfriends. Social media now runs society in so many ways and it will have a young girl feeling as though she is behind and needs to catch up. The murder case for Nicole Lovell had a significant role of social media top play apart. Nicole secretly used a social media app called KIK to contact her male counterpart. Before social media was broadly used there were ?house phones.? In the generation that we live in now house phones are no longer in use. Young girls are now using social media apps such as Facebook, Snapchat, and Instagram. This really captured my attention because I now have a teenage girl as a foster child on my case load who used social media a lot. When first meeting her she asked to see my cellular phone and she directed her fingers directly to the Facebook app. I asked her what was she doing and she stated that she wanted to video call her friend guy who is 42 years old. My mouth dropped and I was speechless. I asked her did her grandmother, whom is her foster parent, know that she was conversing with him and she stated no. I knew then after those few remarks that I not only had my hands tied but also that this child was going down the wrong path.
