The choice to keep his divergence a secret was one of the most intelligent choices he made throughout the book. Four stayed safe and unhurt throughout the book. Four was able to help fellow divergent people as well. With this secret, he continued his dauntless lifestyle. After some thought, Four decided to share the attack secret to the Abnegation. This plan did not work out as expected. Four built up enough courage to tell only his father who laughed in his face and told him to get out of his house. This still left all the abnegation in danger and left Four looking foolish to his father once again. Considering the fact he choose the abnegation, he betrayed dauntless.
