In conclusion, not only does she effectively contribute to the conversation regarding the decline of creativity and why it happens, but through her efficient usage of ethos, logos, pathos, and kairos, Manoush Zomorodi gives a thoroughly convincing presentation. Weaving these together creates a favorable argument for why taking time to set aside electronic devices boosts creativity. Overall, Zomorodi created a compelling argument that not only convinces her intended audience, but also those who may have initially disagreed with her.

Driven by the belief that space was bequeathed to them, the Native Americans feel justified in defending their land against the growing encroachment of the white man as the American landscape unfolds. Their motive is the premise that a higher authority has granted them the right to the space, and that the Great Spirit has created the landscape exclusively for them. Fueled by the formation of conflict over land, the Great Ottawa Chief, Pontiac, in his speech at Detroit, seeks to persuade the tribes, including the Ottawa, Huron, and Pottawatomi to agree to resistance. Invoking the words of the Delaware prophet, Neolin, Pontiac recounts the vision which he believes justifies resistance. Neolin urges the tribes to sever all relations to the customs
Olaudah Equiano made this plea. His point in saying this was to call out the people who claimed that they were Christians for their treatment of others. He is saying that if they are truly Christians they should not be treating other people in this way since God said that we should treat others the way that we would personally want to be treated.
During Dred Scott vs. Sanford (1856), Chief Justice Taney stated that “The words “people of the United States” and “citizens” are synonymous terms” and “The question before us is, whether the [people of African ancestry] compose a portion of this people.” He answered his own question with “We think they are not, and that they are not included, and were not intended to be included, under the word “citizens” in the Constitution.” In 1787, the Constitution was written. “We the People” at the time were elite white males. It didn’t include colored, Natives, women, or impoverished people.
Douglass scolds the religious slaveholders for preaching such moral values in the Bible yet lashing their savage punishments towards slaves. The slaveholders become ignorant to the “pure, peaceable, impartial Christianity of Christ” and instead of obeying the Bible, they resort to the “corrupt, slaveholding, women-whipping, cradle-plundering, partial and hypocritical Christianity of this land”(81). Unlike “Mr. Wilson, who proposed to keep a Sabbath school for...slaves… to learn to read the New Testament”, “class leaders [of the church] with many others, came upon [slaves] with sticks and other missiles, drove [them] off, and forbade [them] to meet again”(46) in fear of them learning too much and possibly rebelling. Douglass exaggerates the class leader’s armory, the missiles, in order to prove that a smaller weapon, such as a gun or a stick in this case, can only kill so many slave’s desire to learn. The hyperbole on the word, missiles, shocks readers because a missile destructs so swiftly, it could entirely wipe out a slave’s desire to learn and will scar them for life if they think about trying to act up again.
The South was firmly against the admission of California as a free state. Its main fear was the upset of power balance, as Calhoun contended, “the Senate, the last bastion of balance, would be stacked against the South by the end of the decade.” In addition, Meade argued that “[the slaveholding South] needed room to expand,” and that “California was ideal for slavery.” Despite their best efforts, the southerners’ arguments didn’t do much because of the fundamental gap between the North and the South on the issue of slavery; it was nearly impossible for one side to convince the other. In the end, Stephen Douglas put through the admission of California by “getting some men to miss a crucial vote and others to vote with the other side.”
This chilling testament explicitly states that those in power relied on violence as a means to send a message to slaves about what would become of them if they refused to toe the line and is, sadly, only one of the innumerable instances of this occurring (Douglass
The predisposed notions that surrounded Native Americans were very much entrenched in to the American consciousness, but these writers present both an argument and an alternate perspective to these already established opinions; using their narratives to create a Native voice and identity. The interaction between both the White and Native characters in both novels illustrate these two radically differing ways of life and the reaction they have to each other. But the outcome of each novel leaves the reader questioning these accepted discourses, and not only the ones that surround the Native people but also the White settlers; fully disrupting and complicating the predominant Puritan ideology that existed at that time. James Fenimore Cooper’s
In the year 1620, over a hundred people were at the end of their tolerance for having a religion forced upon them. These people set off from England in search of a land where they could escape religious persecution. This trip was to be by boat, going across some of the most dangerous waters. Many people died before they reached what was then called Cape Cod. Once on the land, they faced more hardships.
Throughout life, people experience impossible situations, situations so unthinkable no one should have to be put through them. During these darkest hours, the same people seek refuge; some look for it in faith, fellowship, or a hero. In 1933, Adolf Hitler threw European Jews into turmoil (Staff, History.com). The supreme leader of Germany started the most tragic, memorable, and shocking chain of events the world has ever seen.
With the year-round pressure pertaining to college applications on high school seniors follows the impending decision of choosing an appropriate college major. Generally, the decision-making process involves prioritizing one field of interest over another, however, due to globalization and constant innovation in technology determining a college major has increasingly become the modern day equivalent of the metaphorical line between life and death. Even so, the obvious choice would be the prestigious STEM fields over liberal arts due to the instant job opportunities which are seemingly ludicrous to a recent graduate. Nevertheless, liberal arts education should be encouraged to be pursued at higher education institutions in USA because it helps
