She did so many tremendous things, influenced so many people, and made such a big impact in the music industry. Selena mainly focused on Mexican music when she first started. She did not always stick to her Mexican culture and Mexican music though. This is the story and background of Selena Quintanilla-Perez.
She accomplished so many things in her lifetime which include winning a Grammy, releasing 20 albums before and after her death, hosting the 1994 Billboard Latin Music Awards, opening up 2 boutiques, and earning a Hollywood Star. Selena was also inducted into the Billboard Latin Music Hall of Fame, South Texas Music Hall of Fame and the Hard Rock Cafe’s Hall of Fame. She was also very involved in Congressional Hispanic Caucus to help support the survivors of Hurricane Andrew. She held free concerts to raise money for Teach the Children Festival, D.A.R.E and Dept Corporations. Selena became a role model to many young latinas across the globe.
She was known as the beloved “Queen of Tejano Music,” when she first started (“Selena”). She was a Latin artist who was the lead singer of a band. They would also call her “Mexican Madonna” for how sexy she dressed (“Selena”). She played with the band Los Dinos. She was the lead singer of the family’s band.
“Isabel, I will tell you about how I used to live. About parties and private school and the beautiful doll my papa bought me, if you will teach me how to pin diapers, how to wash, and…”(p120). This is significant because it proves that Esperanza will do anything to get that job. She doesn’t want to work, but in order to achieve her goals, she has to. And she is willing to do that for her family.
Selena Quintanilla was a very successful “Tex-Mex” singer, who, from the beginning of her life to the end of it, had an extraordinary life. After one time of singing to her father, a band was created and she was put into the singing world. Since that day, many journeys occurred. She has performed in many places like Mexico and Texas. She even got married and won a Grammy.
She eventually earned her GED in 1989. Selena was recognized by freddie label and her career went uphill from there. She has won over 60 awards from 1983-1995 and she gave much of her money to charities. She was a spokesperson for battered women and also made a shelter for battered women, she also supported the D.A.R.E association, and raised awareness for HIV/AIDS to finance research.
He also supports many other charities. He is having effort by showing up to those charities and donating money to help these people that really need it. Furthermore, he helps a lot with the Latino community. Lopez won an award “Spirit of Liberty Award”, for helping the Latino community. August 2005, he got another award “The 25 most influential Hispanic in America”.
Selena Quintanilla-Perez was a talented Mexican-American singer, songwriter, spokesperson, and fashion designer. On top of her career, she had respect, and was admired as a great role model by Mexican Americans. The “Queen of Tejano” music, her contributions to music and fashion made her one of the most celebrated Mexican-American entertainers of the late 20th century. Billboard magazine named her the “Top Latin Artist of the 90s” and then “Best Selling Latin Artist of the decade”. Selena ranks among the most influential Latin artists of all time and is credited for catapulting a music genre into the mainstream market.

One of my biggest supporters are my parents. Their support and conviction about the worth of acquiring an education has shaped my beliefs, values and ambition to continue higher education and use my career in a progressive way to give back to my community. Unfortunately, not everyone had the same support system like I did. Many of my peers struggled whether to continue their education or financially support their family. This is a very dangerous reality within the Latino community that needs to be addressed and resolved immediately.

Even though her life was cut short she continues to live in the hearts of Latino and American community. Selena is a pop icon that has influence me and others because she broke a lot of barriers and had a major impact on the Latino community.
Selena’s music career began at a very young age. When she was 10, she was the lead singer in a group with her sister, Suzette, on the drums and her brother, Abraham, on the bass. The group was named Selena y Los Dinos, named after her father’s former group, Los Dinos. Selena grew up speaking English, but her father was persistent on her singing Spanish so she could stay true to her culture and ancestry. The group started playing gigs a weddings and parties, also playing at the family restaurant before it has gone bankrupt.
