Selena Quintanilla-Perez was a talented Mexican-American singer, songwriter, spokesperson, actress, and fashion designer. She was on top of her career and was highly respected and viewed as a great role model by Mexican Americans. Selena was considered the “Queen of Tejano” music and her contributions to music and fashion made her one of the most celebrated Mexican-American entertainers of the late 20th century. Billboard magazine named her the “Top Latin Artist of the 90s” and the “Best Selling Latin Artist of the decade”. According to media outlets, Selena was called the “Tejano Madonna” for the sexy outfits she wore when performing on stage. She changed the Hispanic Latino community forever by her positive contributions and impacted our society with her wonderful accomplishments. Even though Selena died in 1995, she is still remembered today for everything she has done in her lifetime. As a Mexican-American woman, she broke barriers and made recording history with her music. Selena was always determined to reach the top without ever giving up and by having this attitude, she made it to the top. I like this about her because I can relate to how she is. For instance, I have goals in my life that I want to achieve and I will not give up until I accomplish them. I admire Selena for all of her hard work and dedication she contributed to her community. She wanted people to do good with their lives and to become successful. She influenced many people and they looked up to her as a great role model. I would most definitely include Selena on future lists as being important to the history of Latin America because she proved to everyone that anybody can do anything they want in their life as long as they put their minds to it and do not give up no matter what the circumstances …show more content…

The Quintanilla family confronted Yolanda about money missing from the Selena Etc. account and it appeared that Yolanda was stealing from them. Although she was fired, Yolanda continued to work because there were papers missing. Early in the morning of March 31, 1995, Selena went to where Yolanda was staying at, the Days Inn Motel, and confronted her again about the money situation. Yolanda stated that she had been raped in Monterey, Mexico and needed to go to the hospital. Being the kind person that Selena was, she took her to the hospital, but what Selena did not know was that she was in a set up. Yolanda took out a gun and shot Selena in her right shoulder. With all of her strength, Selena ran towards the lobby to get help, but she collapsed on the floor as the clerk called 911. Soon as ambulance came to take Selena to the hospital, she was pronounced dead on March 31, 1995 at 1:09 in the afternoon. Even though Selena passed away, she is still remembered today for her wonderful music. She made a difference in the Hispanic Latino community and had a positive influence on many people.
