“If you have a dream, don’t let anybody take it away.” That was my most famous quote. Hi, my name is Selena Quintanilla! Today I’m here to talk about my life. This speech about my life will include my date of birth, my childhood, my family, my adulthood, fun facts about me, and my death date. I was born on April 16th, 1971 to my mother Marcella Ofelia Samora and my father, Abraham Quintanilla Jr. My parents were happily married. I had an older sister, Suzette Quintanilla, and an older brother, AB, short for Abraham Quintanilla, the 3rd. I started singing at the age of 9 in our family band called Selena y los dinos. That same year I won my first Grammy, which was a big accomplishment for my band and I. In 1994, I opened my first boutique. On April 2nd, 1992 I secretly got married to the love of my life, Chris Perez, who was the lead guitarist of my band. My father strongly disapproved of Chris and our marriage. I shook the male-dominated genre of Tejano music with just my voice. I won almost all of the music categories even after my death. I also won another Grammy for my album Selena-Live which was voted best Mexican-American album. My album “Dreaming of You” quickly became the most sold Latin album of all time! Now I will tell you some fun facts about me. My name means moon goddess. I studied business in college. I got the nickname Queen of Tejano music. I have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. I came here today to talk to you about the life I lived, which includes my life as a child, the life I lived as an adult, and the reasons I was famous. Now I have to tell you how I died and when I died. I died at the young age of 23 on March 31st, 1995 because the president of my fan club, Yolanda Saldivar, shot me.
