Selena Quintanilla Do you know the queen of Tejano Music? (A Mexican-American inhabitant of southern Texas.) Selena Quintanilla was that person. She died March 31, 1995. She was a singer and much more.
La Mafia was one of the first Mexican-American bands to perform in Mexico, they brought their unique style to Mexico during the late 1980’s. By expanding their horizons into Mexico, the band is in a way driven by a political movement that demonstrates that combining two cultures is acceptable and in fact even better. Over the years, the band has had many members, however, the lead vocalist, Oscar De La Rosa, has been the frontman and face of the band since the beginning. Currently there are seven members in the band and each performing with instruments that include: the accordion, guitar, drums, congas, and six-bass percussions. Over the last 37 years that band has produced Tejano music, they released 37 albums among the more popular ones: The Magnificent 7 which was released in 1982, Neon Static (1985), Estas Tocando Fuego (1991), and Ahora y Siempre (1992).
She won both “Best Female Vocalist of the year” and “Performer of the year” at the 1987 Tejano Music Awards. Selena made it big in her singing career, her 1990 album was the first Tejano record to achieve gold record status. This status meant that it sold more than 500,000 copies. Many people loved Selena as well as her music, her recordings continued to sale strong. Being as popular as Selena was, she finally took a break from her tours and hectic schedule to marry Chris Perez.
Selena Quintanilla was a young, beautiful, and well-loved singer, that became the Queen of Tejano and I want to know how she got her success and the honor of becoming the Queen of Tejano and how she was murdered. The Queen of Tejano was born on April 16, 1917, she was a Texas girl. She matured into a young adult with her father. Her father had a band and at age 10 she was the leader of the band. Selena was a talented young woman.
The band learned to play many different types of music, for bigger and bigger crowds. The band played rhythms and blues based music in bigger cities. They also played more traditional Tejano music in small towns in Texas. In the year of 1988, Selena was well known, that she was voted the female artist of the year at the Tejano Music Awards. In 1989, she joined EMI Records.
Capitol Latin helped Selena reach commercial success with many hit songs and albums. Her first solo album was called Selena and was released on October 17, 1989. The album mixed in sounds and rhythms from latin pop, cumbia and tejano music. Selena the album was produced by Selena’s brother, A.B Quintanilla and he played a major part in her musical career, helping her release the hits. Selena’s first album gained a lot of recognition because it included both spanish and english within the lyrics of each song.
Selena Quintanilla-Perez was a Latino and Texas popstar. Selena was born in Lake Jackson, Texas, on April 16, 1971. She was murdered by the president of her fan club in 1995. Music ran in Selena’s family, her father, Abraham Quintanilla, was in a band “Los Dinos” during the late 50’s and 60’s.

If I could choose a super villain or superhero to be for one day I would choose America Chavez. America Chavez is basically the female Hispanic version of Captain America.
