Selena Quintanilla Pérez was a successful tejano singer. Her life was influenced by music. Unfortunately, she passed away at a young age. Selena was one of the first female tejano singers to find success. She accomplished many great achievements in her short lifetime. Selena's childhood was very busy since she was always practicing music. She was born April 16, 1971 in Lake Jackson, TX. She and her siblings were forced to practice music from a young age in a group her father formed called Selena en Los Dinos. Their first performance was at the Quintanilla restaurant, owned by her father. She sacrificed her daily life for her career. During her teenage years, teachers were concerned of how sleep deprived she always looked. They complained to her father, but he didn't see anything wrong and eventually pulled her out of public schooling for this reason. Many teachers didn't agree with this lifestyle and threatened to turn her father into the Texas Board of Education. Selena ended up secretly marrying the lead guitarist in her act, Chris Pérez, on April 2, 1992. Her father didn't approve of them being in a relationship, so they thought getting married would solve the problem. Eventually her father accepted the two as a couple. Selena's personal life was greatly influenced by her career. Selena found great success with her career later on in life and was loved by her fans. In 1994 Selena won a Grammy for best Mexican/American album. On January 27 of the same year, she opened Selena Etc. which was a salon and boutique. She released a total of five studio albums in her career. Unfortunately on March 31, 1995 Selena was murdered by the president of her fan club, Yolanda Saldívar.
