She won Best Female Vocalist, an award she would dominate for the rest of her life. She was married to Chris Perez. Sadly Selena died March 31, 1995, she was shot by Salvador her Fan Club president.
There are many singers who have made history, one is Selena Quintanilla. Selena is known as a singer, songwriter, spokesperson, actress, and fashion designer. Many people loved Selena for her singing, she was very talented. Selena Quintanilla was born April 16th, 1971, in Lake Jackson, Texas. She was raised by both parents, Marcella Samora and Abraham Quintanilla.
Before coming to Full Sail University, I had encountered many obstacles. One in particular placed so much doubt in my mind and made me question if this was what I truly wanted to do, or who I wanted to become. Leave my family that is grieving over our loved one, or follow my dreams that my grandmother wanted to see being achieved? This was the hardest decision, each passing day tore me in two and knowing that both of you have doubts about this career choice, because you don’t see what it does and can do. What I’ve faced is similar to her, yet different as well this female artist started at the bottom and slowly worked her way to the top.
Selena Quintanilla-Perez was a Latino and Texas popstar. Selena was born in Lake Jackson, Texas, on April 16, 1971. She was murdered by the president of her fan club in 1995. Music ran in Selena’s family, her father, Abraham Quintanilla, was in a band “Los Dinos” during the late 50’s and 60’s.

The first language that she had spoke was English. Ever since she was a little girl, Selena loved to entertain relatives and friends with her singing.
It can be argued that from the start the film Selena gives the audience the wrong impression that Selena reached the pinnacle of her career when she successfully obtained an English- language crossover status. That is because the film opens with a scene of Selena singing in English to a sold-out concert at the Houston Astrodome which is meant to show “Selena’s career pinnacle” (Vargas 2006). Thus, the viewer’s initial impression of Selena is that Selena became successful only once she succeeded in the American music industry. However, if one were to look at the story of Selena from when she first debuted as a singer one would be able to see that is the not the case.
Selena Quintanilla was a very successful “Tex-Mex” singer, who, from the beginning of her life to the end of it, had an extraordinary life. After one time of singing to her father, a band was created and she was put into the singing world. Since that day, many journeys occurred. She has performed in many places like Mexico and Texas. She even got married and won a Grammy.
Selena y Los Dinos originally played at the family’s Mexican restaurant where she initially got her footing unfortunately, the restaurant did not survive the economy at the time and had to close down. After that they moved to Corpus Christie, Texas and her father’s determination never faltered. Abraham would have them play in the streets, at weddings or anywhere possible. In 1984 Selena recorded her first album which Abraham purchased and did not release until after her death 1995 as “Mis Primeras Grabaciones” (Selena, 2017) In 1986, Selena was discovered by Johnny Canales, an entertainer in one of the top Spanish televisions shows of the time and the Founder of Tejano Music Awards, Rick Trevio and was awarded Best Female Vocalist
She made six albums between 1987 and 1994. She won a Grammy award for her album, Selena Live, in 1993. Her album, Ven Conmigo, was the first Tejano record to achieve gold status. It sold more than 500,000 copies. At the Tejano Music Awards, she obtained the award for “Best Female Vocalist of the Year and “Performer of the Year”.
Selena Quintanilla-Perez you may or may not heard about her. If you have you know she was known as the queen of Tejano music or known by the media the Tejano Madonna. Even though her life was cut short she continues to live in the hearts of Latino and American community. Selena is a pop icon that has influence me and others because she broke a lot of barriers and had a major impact on the Latino community.
Selena was becoming popular throughout the United States and Canada now to. Releasing top hits like “Buenos Amigos”, and “Donde Quiero Que Estas”, which both reached top 5 on the Latin Billboard Charts. She started playing for larger audiences, performing at Houston Astrodome for more than 60,000 people. In 1994 she won a Grammy for the best Mexican American album. Also in she released an album called “Amor Prohibido” that sold over a million copies.
