In The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury, a text-to-world connection is made because the man in “The Taxpayer” was self-centered, and people in the world can be self-centered sometimes. In this excerpt, the man heard that there is an atom war and wants to go to Mars so he can escape it. The text says “Wait for me! he cried. Don’t leave me here on this terrible world, I’ve got to get away; there’s going to be an atom war! Don’t leave me on Earth!” This excerpt from the text also shows that he has a will to survive, but it also shows that he is self-centered because he doesn’t seem to care that anyone else survives. He doesn’t want to stay on Earth, and wants to travel to Mars, just like everyone else. He also doesn’t think the fact that other
