Marium Javaid and Iftikhar Ahmad authors of the study from the University of Management and Technology in Lahore, Pakistan had two phases for the study. In the first phase of the study, 97 undergraduate students were under administration of the Positive and Negative Affect Schedule, Self-Esteem Scale, Body Image Satisfaction, and Figure Rating Scale. The second phase was, 47 women volunteered and were shown images of the ideal women as in intervention. They were asked after looking at the images to complete the Negative and Positive Affect Schedule and Body Image Scale, and it was performed a second time to look into the views of their recent feelings and views of themselves. The results of both of the phases showed that in the first phase of the study showed that self-esteem and body mass predicted body satisfaction, and in the second phase results it was shown that the females of the different body weight showed no change in their body satisfaction, except the overweight female
Around 50% of all lifetime mental illness begins by age 14, and 75% by age 24 (NAMI), this statistic is explored in the novel “A Complicated Kindness”, by Miriam Toews, the novel shows throughout the story how mental health has substantial physical and mental effects physically and mentally not only on you but also on the people around you. One of the ways mental health has negative effects on Nomi, the protagonist, and the people around her within the novel is through Nomi’s massive mental breakdown. hree intertwining concepts: Self-kindness versus self-judgment, a sense of common humanity versus isolation, and mindfulness verse over-identification. These three aspects are each primary building blocks to helping an individual achieve self-compassion. People that have strong self-criticism tend to lack Self-kindness, but treat others better than they would treat themselves (Neff, 2003a). Self-kindness is seeing yourself in a more positive aspect and learning to stop and exercise kind words toward yourself when you’re in pain. We are often self-critical without much notice and don 't realize the unconscious effect it has on everyday function.
When I read this story the only thing I could think about was bravery, and how one man risked his life for what he thought was right. This story follows a medical resident doctor who traveled to Gettysburg for a casual getaway. On his car ride home, he witnessed a horrific car crash right before his eyes. The small pickup truck in front of him was struck in a violent collision by a Ford Bronco during its attempted left turn. While the driver of the Bronco seemed relatively unscathed, the driver of the pickup suffered the brunt of the accident.
I had dark spots on my face, arms, and legs. When looking at my skin after spending a month in Cornell Hospital’s burn unit, I cried. Before my illness I had never considered myself gorgeous, but after I thought for sure there was no way I could ever be beautiful. With this thought in mind my self-esteem took a dangerous spiral downwards.

Judaism is one of the earliest monotheistic religions that has had a profound impact on the world's religious and cultural history. It offers a thorough foundation for returning to G-d and leading a compassionate life. Jewish literature such as the Torah, Talmud, and others emphasise the value of developing compassion, being nice to others, and turning to G-d in repentance and following His commands. In order to assess how Judaism encourages followers to "have compassion" and "return to the Lord," Compassion, or “chesed” in Hebrew, is a central concept in Judaism. The Torah teaches that G-d is compassionate, and that Jews should strive to emulate this quality in their own lives.
To be conscious is to be aware of everything around you. For instance, sitting in school, you begin to notice certain aspects of your surroundings. Your table mate reminds you that our Lit Circle paper is due today, someone slammed a door down the hallway, and so on. But being conscious isn’t just noticing your surroundings. Being conscious also means you form thoughts and create responses to your environment.
Men and women nowadays are starting to lose self-confidence in themselves and their body shape, which is negatively impacting the definition of how beauty and body shape are portrayed. “...97% of all women who had participated in a recent poll by Glamour magazine were self-deprecating about their body image at least once during their lives”(Lin 102). Studies have shown that women who occupy most of their time worrying about body image tend to have an eating disorder and distress which impairs the quality of life. Body image issues have recently started to become a problem in today’s society because of social media, magazines, and television.
There are many important reasons why kind words are a significant aspect of our lives. There are three specific reasons kind words are significant, these include: kind words bring individuals to Christ, can influence others for the better, and can lift someone up out of the darkness and hate that unkind words contribute. Unlike kind words, unkind words hurt others, keep them away from Christ, and overall influences them do evil and be wicked. Unkind words have gotten me into many unfortunate and aberrant situations. Many of which include the people who I love and cherish, which seems a little bit out of the ordinary considering they are very important to me and my life.
Civility is crucial in defining culture and building a strong foundation of good business behavior. It’s usually an underlying value that various successful business organizations work hard to achieve. Virtue ethics normally deals with individual’s character traits in a way which defines who they are as explained by Bourelle and Tiffany (2014). Respect, trustworthiness, empathy, truthfulness, consistent behavior in ways that a person treats others, is some of the ethical values that reflect civil behavior.
Is there a way that compassion can help with humanity? Compassion can help with humanity because we are a society that can help other people. Even though, there are people that don’t show compassion, there are people that do show compassion. In the book Tattoos on the Heart, The Power of Boundless Compassion, compassion is assumed to be the answer to every question. Compassion is a non-ending tool that everyone can use in the world.
Throughout the history, there have been heated discussions on what constitutes a good life. Philosophers have given different annotations on the meaning of good life based on their beliefs, perspectives or even scientific-based evidences. Some view a good life as an accumulation of material goods that brings “large amount” of pleasure to oneself. On the other hand, Mencius and Aristotle advocate good life as possessing of pleasure that incorporates ethical values and they believe that by doing so one will experience enduring happiness. There is no ultimate right or wrong for these interpretations since this is not a factual question.
Psychosocial aspect A study conducted showed that 47.3% of patients felt self-conscious about their skin, 32.7% felt unattractive, and 23.6% felt their disorder distruped their everyday activities. Treatment with skin skin bleaching agents for instance , those mentioned in previous pages have shown beneficial effects on unfavorable psychosocial and health related quality of life issues. Many studies have shown that a negative evaluation of the physical body can cause the development of body image disturbance or dissatisfaction. Body image disturbance (dysmorphophobia) is severe emotional distress experienced by someone with a negative body image, which impairs their daily psychosocial functioning (Cash, Phillips, Santos & Hrabosky, 2004)
Having self-compassion means the following: We love and accept ourselves; We understand that failing and making mistakes is a normal part of the human experience; We’re capable of forgiving ourselves; We treat ourselves with kindness and respect; We give ourselves the self-care that we need; and We’re a good friend to ourselves when things go wrong. Self-compassion has been found to have a significant positive correlation with lower levels of anxiety and depression, as well as higher levels of happiness, optimism, personal initiative and agreeableness. Fortunately, self-compassion can be developed. Below you’ll find five ways to practice self-compassion.
