Introduction

The world today has many problems that affects even the young generation of today and one those

problems are being in a broken family. The family today is experiencing many forms of problems that threatens

their stability. Poor, poverty, unemployment, the changing socioeconomic lifestyle and structure and political

unrest. (Luna, 2004 ).Nearly 1 out of 3 children is living without their father or mother and almost 3.8 Million

Children from around the world come from a disintegrated family (Steve Doughty). Our topic is related to this

problem and what is the self-concept of the Liberal arts students according to this matter. The research will

Family is a group of people who consider themselves related by blood, marriage or adaption, usually

live together or in the case of grown children, at least have live together.(Henslin, 1993 ).People tends to have a

negative self-concept if they come from a broken family which in turn affects their daily lifestyle and also how

they socialize with others. According to the report, the development of children is significantly influenced by

interpersonal relationship within the family.(The Family Pediatrics Report, 2003 ).

There are 6 types of family structures first is the Nuclear family which consist of 2 parents and children,

the second type is the Single parent family which only consist of 1 mother and child or vice-versa, the third

is the Extended family consists of two or more adults who are related, either by blood or marriage, living

Those mentioned above have advantages and disadvantage which will be listed below. The Nuclear

Family is the most preferable of all the family types it has the ability to support their child financially, mentally,

emotionally, and physically with little disadvantages at all. The Single parent families are generally close and

find ways to work together to solve problems, such as dividing up household chores. When only one parent

is at home, it may be a struggle to find childcare, as there is only one parent working. This limits income

and opportunities in many cases, although many single parent families have help from relatives and friends.

Extended family This family includes many relatives living together and working toward common goals, such

as raising the children and keeping up with the household duties. Many extended families include cousins, aunts

or uncles and grandparents living together. This type of family structure may form due to financial difficulties

or because older relatives are unable to care for themselves alone. Childless family many childless families take

on the responsibility of pet ownership or have extensive contact with their nieces and nephews as a
