Why do people write?
Why do we share our opinions, stories, thoughts and experiences through writing? Why not use the word of mouth? Aside from the face that writing preserves what you say in the exact words but even then anything can be altered to mean what someone else wants it to. Human beings have been writing for centuries. Writing has given us insight into historical events, peoples lives, their thoughts, ideas, what drove them to do what they did and how it affected other people. People write for several reasons, a few being for self expression, preservation of knowledge and for communication.
Self expression in itself can be showed in multiple ways, one of which is writing. Self expression can be broken down into three big parts, expression of emotions, the expression of past memories and expression of opinion. When the only form of communication was verbally, it was hard to keep track of what people were saying and easy to twist their words. With a written record, there is much more evidence and solid proof of what someone is saying. Like mentioned before, words have the power of conveying emotion through them. It is easy to identify with words and find they move you. When you are writing letters, emails, messages, you have the ability to take a second, think about what you wish to say and then say it exactly as you would like it to come off. This gives you the advantage of making yourself understood. Verbal conversations on the other hand can be very quick, without giving you that extra second to think. Another reason written communication is so important is for when you are unable to verbally communicate. When you are not with someone but would still like to talk to them, written communication is a very effective method of
