Photography in the mobile technology has significantly improved in the past few years. More and more people can take selfies better and quicker because of innovation. But scientists have found psychological disorders associated with too many selfies and separation from a mobile device.
Selfie is a modern term for self-portrait photography, usually taken with a mobile phone by the hand or supported by an accessory called selfie stick. The word “selfie” is often referred to self-portrait photos taken with the camera at arm’s length or in front of a mirror. People who capture selfies often upload the photos in social media apps. The photos are mostly used to express feelings, ambiance, and vanity or to gain flattery.

Using the Selfitis Behavior Scale developed by the researchers, they identified six factors underlying the selfitis behavior among participants. These factors are attention seeking, environmental enhancement, mood modification, self-confidence, social competition, and subjective conformity.
"Now the existence of the condition appears to have been confirmed, it is hoped that further research will be carried out to understand more about how and why people develop this potentially obsessive behavior, and what can be done to help people who are the most affected," added Dr. Balakrishnan.
Aside from causing obsession, selfie also gave birth to another psychological disorder called phone separation anxiety. PSA is referred to a fear of being separated from a mobile phone and unable to hold it, answer it or charge it cause anxiety. The disorder may also be called nomophobia.
