S- Discuss your SUBJECTIVE feelings for this week: Thursday, I went to an event hosted by Northbay hospital which taught PSA high schoolers the basics of CPR on adults, children and infants. It was really rewarding to see kids wanting to learn how to perform CPR and asking very valid intelligent questions on how to perform CPR. Friday, I went back to my home grounds and did my clinicals at med surg. After spending a few days in med surg, I realized I really do not like med surg. I find I am not that interested in the disease processes the patients have. I would rather change baby diapers than adult ones. Engaging in conversations with med surg patients is more intellectually challenging than infants, but give me NICU any day over med surg.

I am getting use to navigating through Cerner to get to what I need for my patients. I still need to gain confidence in myself and trust that I know how to perform skills. I love my nurse Abbi and feel she is really good about explaining procedures, policies, how to admit new patients and discharge patients. She is a bit of a control freak so she doesn’t really allow me to do things on my own but I know I can learn the skills when I get hired wherever I go next. Abbi has been the only nurse who really takes the time to explain things to you instead of treating you like a task person. I did not do very well with my communication skills this week. For example, when Abbi discussed with me how we tended to talk over each other a few times, I should have asked her to clarify and give me a specific incident. I knew which incident she was talking about but I just nodded my head and listened to her. I feel like as a nursing student, we are there to learn from the nurses and when they give us advise, we should listen and apply it when
