In the satire, Animal Farm by George Orwell, the theme is that selfishness can lead to corruption. These bible verses have a correlation to the book Animal Farm like 2 Peter 2:19, Philippians 2:3, and Proverbs 29:4 The first reason selfishness can lead to corruption is in 2 Peter 2:19. “They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves of depravity—for “people are slaves to whatever has mastered them.” My first piece of evidence is “Almost overnight we could become rich and free”.(p9) This quote says that overnight the animals will become “free” and “rich” what is going on during this is Old Major is giving his speech about the rebellion and promising things. 2 Peter 2:19 says that they were promised freedom but ended up slaves, …show more content…

During this time, the pigs had just taken most of the milk and apples for themselves and the animals are not getting a fair share. This ties into Philippians 2:3 because it says to do nothing out of selfish ambition and the pigs are being selfish with more privilege than the other animals. Philippians also talks about valuing others above yourself. “Nevertheless some of the animals were disturbed when they heard that the pigs not only took their meals in the kitchen, and used the drawing room as a recreation room but also slept in the beds”. The quote says the animals were upset because they said that animals are not allowed to live like humans and the pigs are changing those rules. During this scene, the animals are spying on the pigs.
