Lord Of The Flies As golding says “I suddenly saw how horrific people could be , as compared to the nice people I had known for the last five years.” Kohlberg is important to lord of the flies because his chart helps us understand what the boys are thinkings and how they morally stand throughout the book. Everyone was analyzed with kohlberg's theory of moral development. I will be analyzing the moral development of Piggy, Jack, Ralph from beginning to end in the Lord of The Flies

Throughout the story, there is bullying and fear. William Golding represents this through some of the main characters Piggy, Ralph, Simon and Jack.
The novel, Lord of the Flies, by William Golding was inspired by his time as a veteran in World War II. His goal was to portray the change in people’s morality that he witnessed because of the war. He reflected this situation-based change into his characters. The most evident of which was Jack, who, initially described as a proper, cultured choirboy, slowly transitioned into savagery. He conveyed Golding’s idea that civilization’s conditioning of right and wrong merely masks humans’ more primitive and barbaric nature.
In William Golding’s Lord of the Flies, a group of stranded boys survive on an island with no adults, soon their sense of morality falls apart and violence takes place. The loss of morality causes the boys to break the rules and become violent. Eventually, the boys become uncivilized and stop caring about their actions. They get to a point where they disregard logical thought and resort to violence without reason. As the story progresses, the absence of morality causes violence to reign among the boys.

In the novel, Lord of The Flies, author William Golding tells the tragic and profound story of a group of boys stranded on a deserted island after their plane crashed and mysteriously disappeared during the 1940’s. By repeatedly showing the boys lust for power and disregard for others when fighting for the conch and control of the island, Golding suggests that selfishness leads to the downfall of relationships and society. Selfishness is one of the main themes throughout the story, though it mainly surrounds Jack and Ralph. Jack wants to be chief; he promises fun and full stomachs. Ralph wants to be leader; he promises order and rescue.

Such ideas are significant because human characteristics can change very often due to society's surroundings. Many optimists believe there is an inherent goodness gifted to all people at birth and fundamentally embedded in us that dictates our actions, but the reality is exactly the contrary. People are evil, not because of a desire or choice but out of absolute necessity on account of none of the things we enjoy today would be available or even invented without some evil. Evil, within limitations and with restrictions, is productive for a group of people. Society, with all its art, culture, music, and glory, was created because there was evil present and now works to destroy its very creator through police departments and social initiatives.

In Lord of the Flies by William Golding a group of young British boys crash land on an isolated island. With no adults they try to dictate themselves, and it doesn’t go well. While trying to survive on the island they demonstrate the selfishness the dooms our society. Love brings firmness and hope to society, but with selfishness comes destruction and devastation.
The hidden savagery of humans that is dormant because of civilization is presented in Lord of the Flies through its symbolism, repetition and diction. The struggle for power and control on the island led to the exposure of savage nature that is present in the boys who were forced into a lawless place. Throughout the novel reason and logic are abandoned, causing the boys to act on whims and be controlled by their instincts rather than control themselves. Civilization has dampened human’s savage ways, but believing that there are no consequences could lead to the downfall of humanity and the return of the primitive ways society believes it has abandoned. In E.L Epstein’s article “NOTES ON LORD OF THE FLIES” Golding reveals in his novel that the flaws in human nature lead to a flawed society; which is seen in society (Epstein par. 3). Lord of the Flies provides an example of how imperfections in human nature start to surface when people are in a groups. One imperfection is their tendency to do violent and demeaning things as a mob.
In Lord of the Flies by William Golding, young boys get stranded on an island with no adults in the midst of a war. The boys were orderly and civilized in the beginning but then as they began killing pigs they slowly became savages and lost their civilization. The boys began turning on each other and the evil within them became present. Golding uses a variety of literary devices including personification, symbols, metaphors, and irony, to project the theme that pure and realistic people in the world can be unheard and destroyed by evil.

There 's no rules of any sort on this island these boys landed on they are free to do whatever they want whenever they want.

Also being in the war helped Golding to see what people were capable of even if they were good at heart. Golding’s early life influenced the theme in Lord of the Flies.
Throughout the novel of Lord of the Flies, William Golding provides a profound insight into human nature. Golding builds on a message that all human beings have natural evil inside them. To emphasize, the innate evil is revealed when there’s lack of civilization. The boys are constantly faced with numerous fears and eventually break up into two different groups. Although the boys believe the beast lives in the jungle, Golding makes it clear that it lurks in their hearts.
