To become a dentist they need to complete years of education, such as undergraduate education, which is typically four years, then get letters of recommendation, take the Dental Admission Test (DAT), apply to dental schools, interview, be accepted, and after eight more years of instruction, obtain a license. They need to do all this before starting a practice of their own. They also need to decide on the type of dentistry they want to specialize in. There are many options they can choose from such as general dentistry, pediatric dentistry, or oral surgeon. The best place to attend school currently is the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) School of Dentistry. “The yearly tuition at the University of California at Los Angeles is $15,637. That’s 58% less than average.”(Compare Top Ten Dental Schools) If you live outside of California the annual cost of tuition is $27,882. The application fee is $60. Being a dentist means you need to be trained in hiring staff, and choosing who will be best with your patients and work well with the other staff. It is very important for the new employes to be confident in their roles and positions so they perform at their best. On a daily basis dentists get to see many different people and do different tasks. Being a dentist means you get to fill cavities, look at x-rays, whiten teeth, treat gum diseases, pull teeth, take measurements and make models for dentures, and teach patients how to prevent oral health problems.
