The Separation of Powers is an imminent part of the daily function of the United States government. Separation of powers is an act of vesting the legislative, executive, and judicial branches into three separate bodies. When the branches work together, laws get passed or denied. There has been much discussion about their relevance today. They are still a prominent aspect of the way the government is run today. The Separation of Powers is just as important today as when the Founding Fathers wrote the United States Constitution. Some people have questioned whether or not the Separation of Powers are important to the United States. Various people have not agreed with some of the ruling that the Supreme Court has passed. A recent controversial ruling has been allowing citizens to marry whom they chose. A bundle of people have not agreed with this ruling. However, since the Supreme Court ruled it was unconstitutional to not allow people to marry, it is now legal. A county clerk has recently showed her opposition to the new ruling by choosing to not issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples. Even though it was her religious belief, church has to be separate from state. She served her time in jail. The rulings of the Supreme Court are law, and have to be followed. It is important that this branch is separate from the other, because if it weren’t, one branch could makes the laws, arrest the “criminal”, and prosecute them fully. It is too much power for one branch to have. While Separation of Powers have been challenged, it is still a crucial part of the U.S.
