It is obvious that these killers hold no morals and obey no laws. The only exception is when the serial killer commits these crime for religious purposes, for instance, Herbert Mullin (The Earthquake Killer). He believed that if he murdered people, that earthquakes would be prevented. One other example would be (even though he is not considered a serial killer, more along of the line of cultist) Charles Manson; who thought that an upcoming Armageddon was upon our society, that is it was going to be African Americans overthrowing white people. For example, even though is a religion full of hypocrisy, countless people follow the Ten Commandments and read the Bible to better themselves for their loved ones and God. Recent statistics from the U.S. Prison Chaplins show that 50.6% of inmates were of Protestant faith. One can see that criminals can have a certain set of beliefs, but that does not determine if they will become a law-abiding citizen. But for those who do not go back to the life of crime, does not help nor damage society. Morals do not exclude serial murderers, they are able to have their own set of beliefs, whether or not it benefits society is entirely up to the believer. Even a serial killer with psychopathy, may have a set of morals, but if it does not prevent future homicides, then it does not benefit society. In most cases, morals do not help prevent murders. When it comes to obeying the law, serial killers (and serial killers with psychopathy) tend to end up in prison because they ended up violating the law. As if we needed any other reason to keep these serial killers in a prison, serial killers tend to have no regard for the rights of others. Above all, our society today, even though it has major ups and downs, has a common level of respect for others. Our society acknowledges our basic human rights. When it comes to serial killers, they do not have any regard to other people’s rights, hence why they are imprisoned. For example, when serial killers select their victims, they often times dehumanize them. Dehumanization is known as the process of depriving a person or group of positive human qualities. They use this, so they successfully claim their victims and have their way. This is an efficient way for them to rape, torture, and then eventually kill their targets. As human beings, we have certain needs that needs to be fulfilled. Looking back at previous infamous serial killers, such as the Freeway Killer and the Torso Killer, they had a habit for torturing their victims before and after they were murdered, as well as, raped and performed necrophilia on both female and male bodies.
