Serial: The King of Podcasts By Emily Peterson If you’re new to podcasts, you’ve probably heard about Serial. You may be asking “What is this strange podcast and why is everyone listening to it?” Well, the answer is simple; it’s addicting! Serial is a podcast about murder, given by the title, and is hosted by Sarah Koenig. It was made as a sort of spin-off of This American Life, another quite popular podcast. Now, season one has just recently wrapped up, so now’s a great time to catch up, since season two won’t be happening for a while. Let me just give you the gist of what this past season is about. He was Hae’s recent ex-boyfriend, which is why he was the main suspect for Lee’s murder. This fact was also very crucial to his persecution. Adnan was very involved at Woodlawn. He was an honors student, was on the track team and all that jazz. Adnan was a good guy. At least, that was what most people thought until Jay Wildes, a graduate from Woodlawn, stepped forward. Jay was barely an acquaintance of Adnan. He sold marijuana and smoked with Adnan maybe only three times. Other than that, they weren’t friends. However, Jay said that Adnan told him he was going to kill Hae, and later asked him to transport him to and from the murder. Sarah thinks that Adnan might not have been Hae Min Lee’s murderer. Koenig doesn’t think that there was anywhere near enough evidence to convict Adnan, and she really tries to prove that in this podcast. Serial is about digging deeper into cases, where no one has thought of going. It uses court notes, letters, and Sarah even meets with people who knew Adnan and Hae and interviews them. She even talks to Adnan himself over the phone from the Maryland Correctional Facility, where he is serving a life sentence. Koenig asks him about his friends he knew at Woodlawn, and what he remembers from the day Hae Min Lee went missing.
