Sermon Audience Who Is Jesus? What Did He Do? What Must We Do? Peter on Pentecost (Acts 2:14-41) Peter is preaching in Jerusalem. His Audience consists of Jews from all over the Mediterranean world. His message is conditioned by the assumption of the crowd that all the believers are drunk. (vv. 14-21) Jesus is described as the Nazarene (or Jesus of Nazareth) (v. 22) both the Lord and Messiah (v. 36) Jesus was betrayed, crucified on a cross, and released from the horrors of death by God and resurrected back to life so that we could be saved. (vv. 23-35) As prophesied by King David (Ps. 16:8-11) "Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. The crowd they are addressing is described as 'the people of Israel', meaning they are most likely Jewish. His message is affected by how the Priests in the Temple respond to the sermon. (vv. 12-13a) Jesus is described as the one whom the council had handed over to Pilate to deal with (v. 13). The appointed Messiah (v. 20).
