Servant Leadership Questionnaire (SLQ) Madhvi Jayarao Leaders- 481, Northwestern University May 8, 2015 Questionnaire Results Northouse (2016) outlines servant leadership as a behavior that stresses that leaders put their followers first and help them develop to their full potential. It begins with the natural calling of wanting to serve first. Servant leadership provides a philosophy of behaviors that one can develop over time. However, for some, these characteristics come more easily as these are already part of their natural beliefs and morals; while others have to work harder to develop these characteristics (Northouse, 2016). There are 10 characteristics that are fundamental to the development of servant leadership: listening, empathy, healing, awareness, persuasion, conceptualization, foresight, stewardship, commitment to the growth of people and building community (Northouse, 2016). The Servant Leadership Questionnaire (SLQ) measures seven major dimensions of servant leadership and provides an understanding of where one stands across the different dimensions (Northouse, 2016).
