Petruchio uses sexual puns in an effort to undermine Katherine 's anger and resistence. Many other characters in the play refer to Katherine as some sort of dangerous wild animal, and in this conversation, Petruchio refers to her as a wasp. In anger, She replies that if she is a wasp, then Petruchio should be wary of her sting.
