In attempts to sell items and connect more with the public to create a basic want for their products, advertising has had to change the way they present to our society. Living in a society where everyone wants to fit in and wants to be the next hot thing, it has been easy. One of their successful attempts has been to turn to the sexualization of their models and their ads. By doing so they are then given the power to create these skewed and unrealistic views and expectations of what women do look like and what women should look like. In turn, our society then views these as a reality and in order to fit theses ideals, people buy these products which then turns into more revenue for the companies, that then turns into more of the same thing. But what seems to be ignored is the damage these types of ads are doing to this society. A prime example is a Direct TV advertisement that shows a women smoking while working in a school cafeteria type setting. It is accompanied by a sister ad that shows a very fit and beautiful women dressed in a bikini on a beach. Both are shot at a medium social distance to create the feeling of a formal setting but to also make you not feel estranged. All the colors in the Lunch Lady ad are of a …show more content…

In an article from Off Our Backs called “UNITED STATES: reports find sexualization harms girls” it is explained that the sexualization of women in society can directly and harmfully affect the youth. That “a narrow standard of physical beauty is heavily emphasized.” Which is caused by the sexualization of women due to the public opinion and what is wants. This then forces women to try and maintain a certain look and to appeal in a certain way so that society will accept them. To maintain these unrealistic standards, women and young girls will go so far as to self-harm to achieve these
