In society, children and youth overtime have been known to be cute, innocent and loving human beings, but at the same time, society pins children as immature reckless individuals in the media. Since the emergence of media, we as a society wonder how youth interact with the media they are exposed to and how youth are defined in society. In addition, seen as we are now a part of an information society, where the media is where we get most of our news, beliefs and ideas, we need to be aware of how the media not only shapes society, but how the media shapes youth. In the media there have been many stereotypes that revolve around women and young girls but the stereotype that relates greatly to the article I will discuss is the sexualisation of young women in the media. The article I have chosen to discuss relates greatly to the sexualisation of young women and women being commodified as sexual objects. First, in order to understand how the media shapes youth and how it affects them, we need to discuss this idea of adolescence and how it is affecting how youth are portrayed in the media as either innocent or reckless and as well, how it shapes youth into going from childhood to adulthood. Second, I will discuss how the media exposes youth to specific issues that may not be appropriate for their age group, and causes young women to sexualize themselves, their behaviours and norms at a younger age. As well, youth who have been impoverished or marginalized go onto social media to use their voice and try and feel less victimized. Finally, I will discuss how this idea of moral panic helps shape dominant ideologies, opinions and stereotypes of adults and youth and how they are portrayed in the
