The battle between good and evil is one of the oldest, most universal human stories. From the battle between evil gods and good gods, to our modern day stories of superheroes saving the day and villains seeking to ruin it; this story has been reiterated multiple times in virtually every culture. This battle between good and evil could be external or internal, cosmic or earthly. In the Persian epic the Shah-nama, the battle between dark and good forces is played out on the battlefield during a war. Myths and stories from cultures all over the world explain what humans fear, want and desire.The stories on the struggle between good and evil are manifestations of the human fear of dark forces and the human desire to explain why bad things happen. These stories form a common thread between cultures. Humans do not understand why evil reigns on earth and often try to explain it by using religious deities. Humans fear evil, as a result they have utilized stories to express their fear and endeavored to deter others from doing evil. They often do this by creating an incentive like the Persians and Egyptians did. If one led a good life on earth or worshipped the good god, they would be rewarded in the afterlife.
