Shamanism in Mexico Shamanism is an ancient healing tradition and a way of life. It's a way to connect with nature and all creation. The term Shaman originates from the Tungus Tribe in Siberia. Shamanism is found worldwide, but mostly in Mexico. Peyote is equally known in the Southwest United States territories (especially among Navajo) and among the Huichol people of Northern Mexico. The aspects of shamanism are connection with nature, healing of self and community, spiritual practice, pilgrimage to sacred places, vision and ceremony. The origin of Shamanism began similar within the cave art paints were discovered. People and Anthropologists say that it came from Siberia; therefore they gave them the name Shaman or Shamanism. The first known use was in 1698. Shamanism is still practiced today in many parts of the world, under many different names. I am going to focus mainly in the Mexican Regions. They are usually from Southern Mexico and scattered near the states. In the City of Mexico, a place named El Zocalo, is where the rituals are done by Shamans they use herbs, incense, cleanse spray, and prayers then they begin the rituals. Many cultures believe that a cleansing is a way to spiritually have peace and restore broken areas of the body. For example, if people are real bad with health or cannot resist much of many diseases out there, the shamans would normally go connect spiritually on how you can get better.
