Arthur Aufderheide quote that implies that “All knowledge is connected to all other knowledge. The fun is making the connections.” In this statement Aufderheide suggests that all knowledge is formed from other knowledge and connections can be made personally. In other words, shared knowledge shapes personal knowledge to a great extent. Shared knowledge is the information that is exchanged among people or communities while personal knowledge is knowledge that is acquired from one’s personal experience that will lead to one’s opinion on certain subjects. These subjects may include religious ethics, duty ethics, moral relativism or moral obligations.

An aspect within ethical thinking that is considered to be challenging for us is distancing ourselves from personal knowledge that is influenced from shared knowledge to recognize the possibility of error. Therefore, our moral views are strongly secured. Kant’s view on moral obligation is to see if we consistently generalize it and to see what if everyone does the same thing, in other words, using reasoning to study the outcome of our actions. An example of an individual who was discriminated against and another who was given preference was a situation I have witnessed in Saudi Arabia. It was two men who got into an accident and as usual, one of them was guilty, but in this case the innocent man is the one who took the blame because he was a foreigner who lived in Saudi Arabia while the other man was a Saudi. The reason the police put the blame on the foreigner was because a large percent of foreign drivers are below the average drivers therefore he believed that even if he let the Saudi go he wouldn’t be doing the wrong thing because the foreigner would be somehow wrong. Shared knowledge that you have gained from your everyday surroundings like the culture you live in, traditions you go by and beliefs that were nourishing your actions can influence your moral judgments, your view on moral obligation, and your religious ethics.
