As time progressed the problem became worse and it began to affect me in a very negative way. I became increasingly depressed and my mental state of existence was suffering. I did not want this problem to become irreparable so I took the initiative to visit a psychiatrist with my parents. It was then that I was informed that I have been suffering from severe anxiety. Racism was very prevalent during this time period, especially in terms of the whites living in the Southern part of America. Even though white Americans during this time owned slaves, bought and sold them, had them living on their property, and forced them to take care of their house, land, family and possessions, most of the slave owners had a strong hatred for black slaves. They discriminated against them and were very racist. Slave owners would kill, torture and abuse slaves: physically, sexually and psychologically. For hundreds of years slaves were mistreated by their owners this cause the slaves to grow hatred and fear towards slave owners and white people in general, even the white people who lived in the northern states and did not believe in slavery.
