Even though Shelley and Huxley were two completely different genders, they were still huge criticizers of the society that surrounded them. They both lived during very patriarchal times and successfully mocked that part of society in their writing. Mary Shelley had even gone as far as to publishing Frankenstein without her name on it. In her age, it was wild for a woman to be so intelligent and have the capability to write a novel like this. If she had published it under her name, who knows if the novel would have been as successful as it is.
Mary Shelley looked upon her mother’s name in honor and took up her sense of free spiritualness. This inherited trait is emphasized when after confessing her love to Percy on her mother’s grave, they both began to get intimate which was considered very dangerous and reckless. “Indeed, she and Percy Bysshe Shelley affirmed their love for each other while seated on the grave of her mother in St. Pancras churchyard” (Mary Wollstonecraft). The quote demonstrated a symbolization of confirmation from Mary’s mother on the proposal of unification between the pair. This connects back to Victor Frankenstein who admired his mother’s nurturing nature, unfortunately, due to her maternal impatience overpowering her sense of caution she contracted Scarlet Fever.
In the award winning article, “Passages in Mary Shelly's Frankenstein: Towards a Feminist Figure of Humanity?” Cynthia Pon addresses masculinity and feminism in terms of conventions, ideals, and practices (Pon, 33). She focused on whether Mary Shelly's work as a writer opened the way to a feminist figure of humanity like Donna Haraway argued. The article has a pre-notion that the audience has read Frankenstein and Haraway's article. Pon has a slight bias, due to her passion as a feminist writer.

Yet, tragedy struck shortly after, as her mother, Mary Wollstonecraft, died 10 days after she was born (Huntley). Mary’s life began promisingly and was bound to end up in success, but with the death of her mother, things changed drastically. Without the mother figure in her life, she did not turn out how she wants to.
Through her work, Frankenstein, Shelley relays her struggles in life and this is evident in how she portrays the monster. At the beginning of the novel her life parallels more with the doctor,Victor Frankenstein, but once the monster is created and we see how the public reacts to him we see that Mary is more closely related to it than Victor. Frankenstein eventually comes back to request a partner, but when Victor refuses, Frankenstein comes back for revenge by going after Victor’s family, taking his brother and “wife-to-be’s”, life away.
