I believe that the strategic initiative that Shining Star Youth & Community Services needs is improving the functions in the Human Resources Department within the organization. By offering health insurance, raises, improving the communication and leadership skills within the organization and empowering the employees it will improve the functions with the HR Department. When staff share the mission, vision and values of where the organization is going and are positive about the direction, the staff will have high morale. This is called a SWOT analysis (Hughes, Beatty, Donwoodie, 2014, pg. 72). SWOT Analysis Shining Star Youth & Community Services is an Early Head Start and Head Start organization that continues to provide quality services to at risk families and their children. To evaluate the progress, success, and weaknesses of the Human Resources Department within the organization, the SWOT Analysis will be used. This is a strategic planning method used to evaluate the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats to the organization. Weaknesses also are internal factors that poise challenges to the success of the Human Resources undertaking. Internally, budget hindrance and cuts are conditions that Human Resources often have to deal with, primarily because Human Resources are not a revenue making department. The Human Resources Department has to rely on the funds from the grantee. However, money isn't the only weakness. Low negative employee morale and high staff turnover are serious internal factors that disarray the organization. Disarray refers to immediate and reactive measures Human Resources must take to reverse an astounding sense of dissatisfaction throughout the organization. Opportunities One of the most symbolic external factors for the Human Resources Department is the opportunity for workforce growth, due to the high demand for the organizations services. More business construe into better raises or higher wages for current employees, along with growth for the surrounding community through the hiring of more workers. External factors also may present themselves as the organizations ability to hold highly successful ordnance whose business development activities enhance the organizations reputation.
