Newport News is one of the shipyards that have an agreement with the United States Navy. Newport news is famous for its shipbuilding and repairing. It is also famous for its good and lasting designs for the ships it has built. The history behind Newport News shipyard and why it was chosen by the United state to built military ships. Collis Potter Huntington is the founder of Newport News shipyard. He built the shipyard because he wanted to expand railroads and make more profit by transporting goods. He built the shipyard in 1886 to repair ships. He died soon after but his nephew too all of his fortune and married his widow. He had a lot of money but his nephew took care of it and the shipyard is still standing and still in work mood. The shipyard built 3 war ships for the United States Navy. The special thing about the shipyard that it is big and it has a open port to the main waters. It is also a good place to place war ships for the Navy. …show more content…

The diesel powered cost more money each day because they spent about 1000 gallons of diesel every day. That must of cost a big amount of money. The nuclear powered aircraft carriers do not need refueling every day. It takes 33.3 billion dollars to plan and design a nuclear powered ship. The whole unit cast about 10 billion dollars to built. The United States pays by taking tax money from working people and business owners to make everything work. There are many other shipyards in the united states but they chose this one because i think it has the most efficient shipbuilding and it is also reliable. It costs a big amount of money to build a ship but it also costs soldiers lives if there is nothing to protect
