Some people are too dangerous to be in a communities. George’s decision of shooting Lennie in the book Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck is ethical, according to the Common Good Approach, because Lennie has murdered Curley’s wife and other living things. The ranch workers were outside of the barn having a good time playing horseshoe and Lennie is inside of the barn with his soft puppy he likes to pet. Curley’s wife decides to join Lennie inside the barn and she begins to talk about her hair and how soft and well taken care of her hair is. Curley’s wife lets Lennie to touch her soft hair however, when Lennie puts his hands in her hair, he holds onto it and doesn’t let go of her hair, Curley’s wife starts screaming in panic which makes …show more content…

The animals died because Lennie was petting them too harshly because he isn’t aware of his own strength. When Lennie is inside the barn he realizes the puppy died, he blames the puppy for not being strong enough instead of blaming himself for not having control over his strenght. “And Lennie said softly to the puppy, ‘Why do you got to get killed? You ain’t so little as mice. I didn’t bounce you hard.’ He bent the pup’s head up and looked in its face, and he said to it, ‘Now maybe George ain’t gonna let me tend no rabbits, if he fin’s out you got killed.’ He scooped a little hollow and laid the puppy in it and covered it over with hay, out of sight; but he continued to stare at the mound he had made. He said, ‘This ain’t no bad thing like I got to go hide in the brush. Oh! No. This ain’t. I’ll tell George I foun’ it dead.’….Suddenly his anger arose. ‘God damn you,’ he cried. ‘Why do you got to get killed? You ain’t so little as mice.’” (85) During the book Lennie has killed multiple animals and he could kill multiple humans too. As said before, Curley’s wife was the first human he killed and if he is not stopped he can kill another person. Thus, George’s decision of shooting Lennie was ethical according to
