Julia Child was born Julia Carolyn McWilliams, on August 15, 1912 in Pasadena, California. Julia was known by several pet names as a little girl, including "Juke", "Juju" and "Jukies." She was the daughter of John and Julia McWilliams’s and the eldest of three children, John III and Dorothy Dean. Mr. McWilliams was a 1901 Princeton graduate who was a very successful in his career field in agricultural land management and real estate. Mrs. McWilliams (Julia Carolyn Weston) was a class of 1900, Smith College graduate from Dalton, MA and she was the daughter of the founder of the Weston Paper Company, and a Lieutenant Governor of Massachusetts. The family accumulated significant wealth and, as a result, Julia lived a privileged childhood. Mr. and Mrs. McWilliams’s raised their three children in comfort and sent them to private schools like Westridge School, Polytechnic School.
